Paint your own Sugar Skull!

Sugar Skulls are prominent on the altars of El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) holiday.  Día de los Muertos is a colorful celebration to honor death and those who have passed. Sugar skulls are a way to honor and celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones. Sugar skulls represent the cycle of life, with death and rebirth being a key part of the celebration. 

In Mexico, death is represented with sweetness and nostalgia. The sugar skulls on the altar illustrate the passage from the earthly to the spiritual; they are considered an allusion to death so that we remember that it is always present. Therefore, life on earth must be fully lived.

They are purposely bright and colorful to celebrate the lives of the departed. Día de los Muertos is an uplifting holiday, not a sullen one.
